Dirty Cookie's Shot for Education Gives At-Risk Kids their Shot

Dirty Cookie Shot for Education At-Risk Youth

The Dirty Cookie “Shot for Education” program turns Cookie Shots and Stuffed Cookies into a way to give children their shot at a better education.

Since the age of 10, Shahira Marei, founder and CEO of Dirty Cookie, knew she wanted to change lives by empowering them with the tools to succeed. While on vacation in Egypt, she witnessed the devastation of hunger and homelessness firsthand.

“Children living on the streets who were stripped of essential resources, such as, education, food, and shelter. I was shocked children my age were living on the streets - that they were deprived of basic food and shelter. I begged my father to give them money,” shared Shahira.

He conceded, but not before giving her the sage advice that would shape the foundation for this program: “If you really want to help them, give them jobs, not money.”

It was monumental enough advice for her to build a company that she vowed would be centered around the people she employed. Ta Da! Dirty Cookie was born from that desire to turn something small (and delicious) into something meaningful. To further her mission to empower under-resourced communities the Dirty Cookie’s Shot for Education program was created.

Since January 2021, Shot for Education has helped over 500 at-risk kids.

Every month we choose an education-focused non-profit and donate 1% of proceeds to support their mandate to provide tools, resources, and access to education. Our partners empower youth in underserved communities with unique educational experiences ranging from STEM to reading.

Some of the organizations we’ve recently supported:

  • Student Rising Above is an organization that represents unrepresented communities and helps students understand the obstacles they must overcome.
  • The Freedom Story organization focuses on protecting vulnerable children, human trafficking, and powerless children.
  • Girls Who Code is a nonprofit that helps girls train in computer science, creating a sisterhood. Citizen Schools is a STEM mentorship organization that builds confidence and curiosity in students.
  • Citizens School for STEM mentorship, build confidence and curiosity.
  • TNTP nonprofit heavily focuses on the injustice of educational inequalities in public education for children.
